Agenda Highlights

9AM Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a new, innovative approach for solving challenging problems that we encounter in practice, and as an enabler of disruptive innovations and smarter world. AI’s renaissance is driven by recent complementary developments, including major advances in the AI arena, realistic expectations, and recent success in its applications. AI is also raising some major concerns, real and perceived. Nevertheless, AI is trending to become a new normal and is increasingly being adopted in many applications despite its concerns and limitations. This panel will examine the new realities of AI in the federal space.

10:30AM Ask the CIO Live with Jason Miller – Bridging the Data Analytics Gap

As a result of the Open, Public, Electronic and Necessary, (OPEN) Government Data Act that became law, Chief Data Officers (CDOs) are now mandated. How can CDOs bridge the gap between other agencies and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) regarding best practices on how to use agency data?

1:45 PM Mitre Afternoon Breakout Sessions

Collaboration Session 1: Human-Centered Design Patterns for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)

This collaboration session will examine the use of ML in the information extraction process and how organizations use high quality/semantic data to drive ML and improve the way in which they derive reasoning from data

Collaboration Session 2: Blockchain-managed Data

Applications using blockchain and related trends showing promise for government use. Among these blockchain topics, Identity and Blockchain (Specifically Self-Sovereign identity for returning data ownership to data subjects); applications of blockchain for global customs tracking. (such as guaranteeing customs enforcement, tracking sensitive materials, or even tracking immigrants and refugees from various countries); blockchain for cryptocurrency (which we understand the Treasury is hoping to use for improved grants payment tracking and management)

Collaboration Session 3: AI-Assisted Healthcare and Health-Related Data: Challenges and Roadblocks

Emphasis would be on the societal and technical limitations of artificial intelligence in systems and applications. We anticipate discussion of data interoperability, PII, etc.; evolution of research, commercial products and applications involving DNA, and other personal data commercialization (per Bruce Schneier 2015 and Shoshana Zuboff’s 2019 book on Surveillance Capitalism). Further topics include impacts and implications for government use or protections of personal data including biometrics, facial recognition, the use of DNA and ‘genetic genealogy’ as evidence in legal proceedings

AI World Government 2019 Expo

Conference Detail

AI World Government provides a comprehensive three-day forum to educate and inform public sector agencies on the strategic and tactical benefits of deploying AI and cognitive technologies. With AI technology at the forefront of our everyday lives, data-driven government services are now possible from federal, state, and local agencies. This has led to the rapid rise in availability and use of intelligent automation solutions.

AI World Government gathers leaders from across government, technology innovation, business and research to present the state of the practice and state of the technology to assist the public sector in leveraging advanced intelligent technologies to enhance government services. Special focus is given to the challenges, solutions, and opportunities that lie in the agency mission, and how agencies can prepare to deploy intelligent automation to address their goals.
